Illustration Friday: Mail

I sort of missed last week's Illustration Friday. I drew the picture Wednesday morning but then forgot about it :( The topic of the week was "mail". I've never drawn a "pointing" sort of picture, I guess I wanted to make it a sort of Uncle Sam mail girl thing but I don't know, this is the result.

Illustration Friday: Phenomenon

Okay, long time no post, I know. I've decided to come back and use this blogspot for mainly for my art!
There's a website called Illustration Friday and every Friday there's a new theme! All you have to do is draw up whatever you think pertains to it, then upload it and voila! This drawing is also my half of an art-trade with one of my followers on tumblr.

I was honestly pretty blank when it came to "phenomenon". I wanted to draw Centaur but I totally massacred the body, then I wanted to do some sort of floating/telekinesis thing but it wasn't working out... so I decided to doodle some hands and ended up with this sort of "exorcism" piece. For the shading of the skin, I guess I wanted to try a sort of "traditional" thing and used the complimentary color for the darker tones... it was worth a shot.

The claw

I won these two in one of those "claw" games. It was my first time winning one, and how lucky am I to have grabbed two in one shot? :3 I thought it was rather odd that they had Doraemon at a KFC/Taco Bell place... but who am I to complain?

The sketchbook has landed

My sketchbook from The Sketchbook Project came in the mail~! I'm very excited to be a part of this :)
I have no clue how to bind or unbind sketchbooks... I don't know what I'm going to do on the outside to make it "pop". I'm afraid to start it really... I'm going to be busy this weekend, and then on Monday school starts... I can only hope that I'll find the time to actually "finish" it!

August 10

August 10 was my boyfriend's 19th birthday. Before heading into work, I put in the order for a greeting card cookie cake, about $15. This is only the second time I've ever bought one of these things... the first time was sometime in middle school with my friend Sam, and we bought one for our friend Vanessa. I don't remember what the cake said, but I remember we drew a giraffe on it.

We cut it in half for both of us... I couldn't even finish my piece.

You don't have to believe me

I kept my eye on this skirt for a while day at work, I couldn't stop thinking about it. After I clocked out, I went and bought it.

Earrings: Charlotte Russe
Blazer, skirt, bag: Forever 21
Shirt, belt: Urban Outfitters
Shoes: Buffalo Exchange

I seldom add green into my outfits... much less a dark forest-y green. They had other color combinations for the skirt, ie dark blue/red, but I was keen on this one.

I got this shirt last year at some sale Urban Outfitters had going on. I got it for $10. While that place can be pretty pricey, they do have some good sales every now and then.

The purse was about $23 at Forever 21, my boyfriend helped pay for it.
Without a doubt, these are some of my favorite shoes to wear in the winter/fall. I bought them last year at a Buffalo Exchange in Austin, they're still in pretty good condition!

F21: I love nerds

Okay, yeah, we all know that the whole "I'm a nerd, I wear fake glasses" trend died out a long time ago... but I'm head over heels in love with this "Twist" collection. The little "bow-tie" sweater pictured is a shirt that I'm fawning over, but it's been taken off of the website (Maybe it sold out?) and I haven't even seen it in my F21~ :(!
These are pictures from the "Lookbook":

I love the little character doodle on a couple of the clothing, but that might just be because it reminds me of my own drawings. The collection has some choice skirts and blazers, not to mention Letterman-like jackets! I'm not really a fan of any of the tops, here are some of my favorite items from the online store~!

Like I said, I'm more favorable to the bottoms than the tops. It has a nice amount of neutral colors, but also has colors that are "bright", but not too bright to point where you wouldn't be odd looking wearing the color out in the winter.
I'm the kind of girl that wears skirt all throughout the year, regardless of the weather (most of the time), so I think the letterman jacket with the first skirt pictured, some tights and/or socks and kitten heels would make for a chilled out tomboy look.

F21 + BL

So on August 13, Brian Lichtenberg's collaboration with Forever 21 is going to be on sale. I'm a little bit excited to see what's in store~!

Personally, I hope there are a lot of dresses. I really dig shoulder pads, and although I've never really tried out the whole "one sleeve/off the shoulder" thing, I'd be willing to try one on and see how it goes. I imagine that there's going to be A LOT of stripes. We already have so many horizontal striped tees... I want to see some vertical lines!
Besides the shoulder pads, I'm guessing it's going to have quite a few "droopy" tees? Personally, I'm not a fan of them on myself, but others seem to pull it off very well.

We have a variation of the sort of jeans that are being worn in the picture, but they're more leggings. They're also more of a pleather/cotton... or maybe it's pleather/spandex... I'm really not sure.
That being said, I'm excited to see if there are dresses. I wouldn't mind having a hooded dress, it would work out very well for me when the weather starts to get cold!

The Sketchbook Project

I'm doing The Sketchbook Project!

I’m doing The Sketchbook Project, thanks to seeing a facebook update on Kenzie’s page.

For $25, you buy a moleskine sketchbook from this website and they mail it to you. You pick a theme (or let them choose at random), and then fill out the sketchbook, decorate it, whatever. You mail it back to them before the designated date, they take all of the sketchbooks they received and go on a kind of “tour” with them, showcasing them in different cities. For $20, you can get your moleskine's pages shown online!

The moleskines have a sort of “barcode” on them (like a library book), so every time somebody looks at your sketchbook, it’s scanned and you’re able to keep track of how often your work is viewed!

It’s pretty interesting, and I recommend it to anyone! It's an interesting way to keep yourself motivated to draw.

The theme I chose was “I’m sorry I forgot you”, I already have a cover idea for it :)

My dad was kind enough to buy mine for me, and I just got an email today that they shipped it!

New Moleskine

I bought a new moleskine a few weeks ago, a hardcover one. I have a soft one, but I just can't get into it. I like the hardcover because I can draw anywhere with it, but with the soft cover, it bends and whatnot so it makes it difficult to draw if I don't have a table or a flat surface.

Anyways, the first page of a moleskin is a "In case of loss, please return to..." page. Usually I just leave them blank or put a little lame doodle, but this time around, I actually like what I've done with it.
Under the name section, there's a blank for a "reward"... I don't know anyone who would go out of their way to return a sketchbook to someone, reward or not.

I've always wanted a doodle of myself I could use consistently as an icon on any social networking site... but I'm never happy because I change my appearance every so often and I feel that doodles become obsolete. It's the same with a photo, I can take one and be happy for the time being, but over time I feel like it starts to look less and less like me.

I decided to color this doodle in Photoshop.
And just for the hell of it, here's the outline:
Feel free to color it or something and send it to me :3

Lucky Star Ep. 2

Snow White

Last week, my friends and I went to Buffalo Exchange... I spent way more money than I had planned.
The blue dress is American Apparel, and it was about $22.
The heart purse was $9.
The yellow/white oxford heels were... about $20.

I went to work wearing this outfit, so I brought a pair of flats to change into. I usually don't like wearing flats when I go out... I love heels because they make me taller and they make my legs look longer (I'm only 4'10").

The belt is from Forever21, I got it because it came with a skirt. I'll admit I wear this belt way more often than I do the skirt that it came with.
The earrings are from Charlotte Russe, the store was having a deal on earrings "Two for $8", and I'm a sucker for anything "geometrical" if that makes any sense. I love stripes/lines in clothing and accessories, vertical stripes are one of my favorites.

My boyfriend bought me this "Milestone Mickey" from Goodwill because he's a sweetheart. The legs are a little bit torn up, but other than that it's in pretty good condition!
