San Japan Sinister 6

The sixth year of San Japan was August 16, 17, 18 and it was my third year going! I think its about time I start going to other state cons! One reason is because this year was kind of lame, and the second reason is waiting until the next year takes too long haha.

I don't really have much to say of the con, unfortunately. There weren't really that many amazing cosplays and I only went to one panel and didn't care for it.
I'm hoping that next year will be better!

Here's what I wore on August 16.

My dress is Elpress L's "Garden's Capulet" and all the accessories are from Taobao as well. I had originally planned to wear some wristcuffs but I guess I didn't read the listing right and was sent flowers that you can pin onto wristcuffs.

On August 17, I cosplayed as Misaki Mei from Another. I don't really have any "good" pictures of it although I did get my picture taken throughout the day, I haven't been able to find any anywhere!

Under the cut I'll have pictures we took of cosplayers, pictures from the lolita fashion show, and a few more pictures of myself and my friends!

July 15 AKA Day of Bey

Last month I was blessed enough to go to a Beyonce concert! Trying to get tickets for that event was probably one of the most stressful moments of my life; I almost didn't even get one! I was waiting at my computer for them to go on sale and after constantly refreshing the page it let me through. I was able to grab two tickets but forgot to add a parking pass, so when I went back to add it again they were all gone! I had to keep refreshing and entering captchas and at this point I was in tears trying to find tickets for both of her Texas shows haha. I ended up successfully grabbing one and in turn, went to see her by myself.

Matt and I went to Houston for the weekend and did touristy things as I'd never been there before!

We went to the Galleria as soon as we got there, it was so cool! There was an ice skating rink inside and so many stores! I wanted to go into the Kate Spade store but I always feel really awkward going into nice stores like that and not buying anything hehe.
After walking around there, we went to Chinatown. Its like you're in a completely different part of the world (not that I've ever been to China or anything) but all the writings on the signs and buildings were all in chinese, all the food and pictures in the windows, not to mention the people! I'm pretty sure I was the only brown girl there haha. We went into Fit (a japanese convenience store) and I wanted to buy everything!

I accidentally applied a skin whitening filter lol
Read on to see pictures of what I bought, and of course, more purikura!

KERA July 2013: My favorite pages!

Earlier this year with the help of J-List, I subscribed to KERA magazine. For those that don't know what that is, here's the description from their website:
KERA is a fresh and fun fashion magazine from the streets of Tokyo. Covering a variety of themes, from punk to Harajuku grunge to Goth-Loli , this magazine gives the reader an excellent idea of the fringe, hip fashions that are currently taking Japanese youth by storm. A thick, large magazine of color photos, it contains not only models, but photos of the apparel alone. It is a mixture of the Harajuku grunge and gothic crowds, a "power up FRUiTs" with superb photographs, famous models, and tons of fashionable pictures to look at. Features JPOP artists as well as make-up tips and accessory information.
I'd been wanting to get subscribed to a japanese magazine for a long time, but could never decide which one I wanted! J-List offers egg, Super Cawaii, Gothic & Lolita Bible and more! You even have the option of just buying an issue from whichever month instead of getting a monthly subscription.
At first I didn't know how the subscription was going to work, but J-List sends you an email every month requesting for the payment of the magazine and shipping. I thought it was nice that they didn't just automatically deduct the funds from your account, though I'm not sure what happens if you don't pay it.

Anyways, I think that's all I have to say about that so let's get into the pictures!

Courtsey of hudie.com because I forgot to scan the cover and now I don't want to get up hehe.

LA Day 3: Kyary

Better late than never!

Our last day in LA was the whole reason for our trip, we saw Kyary Pamyu Pamyu live! It was definitely an experience that I'll always remember~

We started the day by going back to Hollywood Blvd to buy souvenirs for our family members and friends. We ended up taking a little bit longer than expected there, because then we walked around in front of the theater to see all the people in costumes and whatnot.

I wanted to go back to Little Tokyo to take more purikura (hehe), so while we were there we also ate! I can't remember the name of the place that we ate at, but they had this!
I didn't get it of course hehe.

Read on for the pictures of purikura and my "haul" from this trip!

LA Day 2: Little Tokyo

Yesterday's walking around had me exhausted so I slept the whole night! I usually wake up at ~7am every day (and then promptly go back to sleep hehe) but I think jet lag also helped me snooze. While I was sleeping, Matt and Mariyah went to Koreatown which was literally right down the street from our hotel! I wish I had gone with them!!

Besides Kyary, Little Tokyo was what I was looking forward to the most. It's pretty much the closest I can get to actually going to Tokyo, haha. We woke up in the morning and went next door to a place called Nue Studio Cafe and Salon. The hotel lobby had a sign with the cafe's hours, and also on the hotel's website it has a section about them so it was very convenient! Here are some pictures from their website:

"Owner and stylist Todd Jameson is a well known hair god and rock star in Miami, where he opened the original Nue Studio in 2008. His shop, which was voted among the top 100 salons in 2011 by Elle Magazine, include art-covered walls, album covers used as flooring and a DJ booth."

While we didn't go to the Salon, the cafe was very delicious! The coffee was amazing and I got this thing called a "Fat Elvis", which is peanut butter, banana, and bacon on a croissant! Everybody knows peanut butter and banana go well together, but I never thought about adding bacon to the mix! It was so filling, I couldn't finish it all... Actually, all 3 of us had a hard time finishing our food!
The girls working there were also very cute and nice, which is always a plus!

According to GPS, Little Tokyo was only about 15 mins away from our hotel so after we had our fill, we went on our way!

Los Angeles Day 1

As some of you may or may not know, I took a trip to Los Angeles, CA with my boyfriend, Matt and friend, Mariyah! The purpose of our trip was to see Kyary Pamyu Pamyu perform!
Once I had seen word of her going on a world tour, I knew that she HAD to have at least one US date. I knew that she had performed in LA before so it was my guess that she was going to be there again, and after they posted the dates, I was right! So after that was announced, we started to save up money and planned for the trip!

Our flight was set to leave at ~7am and we almost missed it! Our boarding passes told us that we were leaving from B7, but it ended up being B8! I'm not sure why that happened? If they hadn't called our names for the flight, we definitely would have missed it!
It was Matt's first flight!
Our flight took a little longer to take off because we had to go back for them to rearrange the luggage. Unfortunately, this took about 20 minutes that we didn't really have! Our flight was very short, probably only 40 minutes, but now we were late for our flight to LA! We ran to the other gate to catch our flight but they had already boarded... thankfully, they let us get on because we only had carry-on baggage.
The flight seemed like it took such a long time, I was starving and exhausted because I couldn't sleep the night before; at the same time, I was ecstatic because I've never been to LA and I wanted to see everything!

Once we landed, we picked up our bags and waited in line to get the car we rented. I looked up how far we were from the hotel and it said 1 hour! This was when we realized we hadn't even looked up how far our airport was from the hotel. It was a slight bummer, but there was nothing we could do but drive!
I was expecting really bad traffic but it was never stand-still, bumper-to-bumper like it gets here in SA. I feel like the drivers in general were... better? Cautious? I don't know, I can't really think of the word for it right now, but hopefully you get what I mean!

We were staying at Hollywood Historic Hotel. The price was reasonable and it was relatively close to everything that we wanted to do! I have no complaints on the hotel, besides that I wish we had a microwave to heat up our leftovers from the day, haha! We could see the Hollywood sign from our window, and even though some people might not like the sounds of the cars and whatnot going on outside, Matt and I are both relatively heavy sleepers so it didn't really bother us!

More pictures from when we walked around Hollywood Blvd under the cut!
